Materials and their Destiny is a different kind of jazz album— less something you would find at the touring band’s merch table; more what the intrepid archaeologist might find buried under a library in Venice.
Inspired by an overlooked work of American architectural philosophy, Sydnor’s compositions merge Late Romantic harmonies with the synth-laden production approach of 70s prog rock.
The music is presented as a suite: an edifice rotating upon a central axis. As the music cycles forward cryptic motives recur like runes — accumulating meaning and rewarding multiple listens.
